May Day Showdown with Avance

Oberena take on bottom club CD Avance Ezcabarte in a re-arranged fixture tomorrow, after the original game was postponed on 28th January.

Avance are bottom of Group 15, with only 3 wins and 14 points from their campaign.

The game kicks-off at midday, and Oberena must surely be looking for all three points to get back on track, after the defeat against Txantrea last Friday.

The Future

From top to bottom: Edu Mediavilla, Jon Azofra Valles, Javier Torrano Zudair, Xabier Anzizu and Inigo Ripodas. Mediavilla, Anzizu and Ripodas made their debuts against Txantrea tonight.

CD Oberena 1-2 UDC Txantrea

Without many first-team regulars in the side, Oberena lost 2-1 this evening, but did not disgrace themselves.

Forced to play several youth team players due to suspension and injury, the manguiverdes did take an 8th minute lead through Sadaba.

Txantrea scored twice before the break, in the 31st and 38th minutes, and although Oberena played well in the second half, they could not find an equaliser.

However, with young players of the calibre of those on show tonight, the future looks good for Oberena.

CD Oberena: Montoro, Ancizu, Moler, Gozalo, (Mediavilla 46th), Ripodas, Varea, Sadaba, Jauregui, Oroz, Remacha, (Mundinano 65th), Ruiz, (Andoni 57th).

Next up....UDC Txantrea

Opponents for Oberena this Friday, are UDC Txantrea, the team which sits two points above the manguiverdes at the top of the FairPlay League, with 71, compared to Oberena's 73.

In Group 15, they also sit above Oberena, but just by the one point, and the men from Pamplona do have a game in hand. Top scorer for Txantrea is Eztieder Jacoisti Jaso with 17.

Oberena were ousted from top spot in the Fair Play League after a rough-and-tumble game against Egues last Saturday, while Txantrea were losing 3-1 at home to Peña Sport.

CD Valle de Egues 1-3 CD Oberena

Oberena today recorded what must surely be their best result of the season, by defeating runaway league leaders Egues 3-1 away from home.

Oberena started the sharper of the two, and were rewarded with a Ruben Gil (pictured) strike in the 28th minute. That was how it remained until the 58th minute, when Oroz doubled the lead.

Egues pulled a goal back in the 70th, but Oberena made certain of the points six minutes into injury time, with a goal from Ruiz.

Referee Sevillano booked four Egues players, and showed them one red card, while at the same time booking Garriz, Borja, Edu Gozalo and Dani, and showing two yellows to Oroz.

This performance must give heart to the players and officials of the club, and if this level of progress is maintained, the manguiverdes could yet finish in the top six.

CD Oberena: Ander (Montoro 56th), Xabier, Garriz, Borja, Edu Gozalo, Ruben, Mikel (Raul 60th), Jauregui, Dani, Oroz, Ruiz.

Oberena travel to league leaders on Sunday

Oberena make the journey to Egues on Sunday, to face top team Valle de Egues.

Egues, sitting with 72 points, six clear from nearest challengers Peña Sport who they beat 1-0 in Tafalla on Sunday, are favourites to win the league, and Oberena will need to play very well to take anything from the game.

Top scorer for Egues is Eder Torrades Huarte, with 19.

In the corresponding fixture in November, the manguiverdes lost 2-1 in Pamplona.

CD Oberena 2-2 CD Aluvion

In an action-packed game in Pamplona today, Oberena showed signs that their recent trip to Scotland had charged their batteries for the remaining fixtures of what was turning into a rather disappointing season.

Going in one-nil up at the break, thanks to a Fermin Remacha goal in the 41st minute, the manguiverdes found themselves up against it when play resumed. Top scorer for the men from Cascante, Angel Falces, netted his 19th of the season in the 55th minute.

In a very open game, play swung from end-to-end, and Remacha made it 2-1 in the 59th. However, with only four minutes to go, Falces equalised for Aluvion, to ensure the points were shared.

Making his debut for Oberena today, was Javier Torrano.

CD Oberena: Ander, Merino, Garriz, Capel, Moler, Gil, Sadaba, (Torrano 63rd), Jauregui, Remacha, (Oroz 82nd), Inigo Lopez, (Mendioroz 63rd), Javi Ruiz.

Back to Business

With the plantilla having returned safely to Pamplona, thoughts now turn to the remaining eight games of the season, and the pursuit of points.

This weekend, the manguiverdes host sixth-placed CD Aluvion, who sit eleven points above them. In the previous encounter in November, the men from Pamplona won all three points thanks to a Ruben Gil goal four minutes from the end.

Since then, the team from Cascante has gone from strength-to-strength, and will be difficult to beat. Top scorer is Angel Falces Magno, with 18 goals.

CD Ardoi 1-2 CD Oberena

Oberena scored a well deserved winner two minutes into injury time, to set them off on their Easter break to Scotland in happy mood.

Ardoi took a 12th minute lead, which was cancelled out by a strike from Remacha in the 37th. The game stayed level until the 92nd minute, when right-back Merino grabbed the winning goal, much to the despair of the home crowd in Zizur Mayor.
The win keeps the manguiverdes in the top half of the table.
